  • Horace Rawlings was Assistant Pro. at Crowborough Beacon for a short period at the time of the Club’s foundation. The youngest ever winner, he was US Open champion in 1895 and runner-up in 1896.

    As US Champion, in 1896 Rawlings played James Braid in a 36 hole medal over the original 9 holes. Braid victorious in awful weather conditions with a gross 171.
  • 1937 Henry Cotton played an exhibition match against Alf Padgham 1936 Open Champion. Unfortunately the famous Cotton was hampered by the crowds on the course who knew little about the game of golf and where not to stray! Padgham came out the winner by 3 & 2, which caused a stir in the national news.

  • 1957 An exhibition match to celebrate the opening of the final significant changes to the course that included Peter Alliss and Ken Bousefield from the Ryder Cup team, Major DA Blair a Walker Cup member and Scottish Amateur champion and GR Bristowe from Woking.
